Recently, I was on the look out for a low cost notebook for home use. My primary purpose for the notebook is to browse, email, watch movies, listen to music, and do some writing. I needed a notebook that was light, had a good battery life, good audio, nice keyboard layout, and something that would turn ON and be available as soon as I opened it. Of course, it had be the available at a good price.
The last thing I wanted was to get a windows laptop. Among all the pains that come with Windows is that the updates always start at the wrong time and take for ever to complete. I like Macbook, however I didn’t feel like spending $1000 on it. Given I had eliminated Windows and Mac notebooks, I began my search for a Chromebook. I reviewed several of them and I finally landed on Acer Chromebook, 11.6-Inch, CB3-111-C670 (Intel Celeron, 2GB, 16GB SSD, White).
It had everything I was looking for:
- Very light weight (2.4 pounds)
- Has an Apple like look and feel
- Good keyboard layout – very easy to type
- Very good audio
- Excellent battery life (8.5 hours)
- Fast boot – turns on in an instant
- 11.6″ HD Anti-Glare Widescreen LED-backlit Display
- 16GB Internal SSD
- Bluetooth 4.0
- HD Webcam
- USB Ports = 1 – USB 3.0 Port, 1-USB 2.0 Port
- HDMI Port
- 3-Cell Li-Polymer Battery (3220 mAh)
- Price ~$150
When you buy the Chromebook you get 100GB of free storage from Google and all the other freebies that Google offers for purchasing a Chromebook. I use Google Docs for all my productivity needs. If I need MS Office, I use the Microsoft Office Online (online version of Microsoft Office) Chrome extension that is available for free. I bought this Chromebook a few months back and have been using it a lot. I love it. Everyone at home was skeptical when I made the purchase but are competing with me to use it now. It is the #1 Best Seller in Laptop category, has 4.4 out of 5 rating, at Amazon with 1077 customer reviews at the time of this writing. For ~$150, it’s a steal.
