Ibotta – Cash Back App Review

Sarah and I work and both of us have no time to clip coupons for groceries. Even on extremely rare occasions, when we go through the pain of clipping coupons, we would forget to take it to the grocery store, or lose it, or even worse, it would be expired if remembered to take it. Does this sound familiar?
What is Ibotta? It is a free cell phone app that helps you get cash back on purchases from several brands including store brands. They have cash back offers from several merchants but we just use the app mainly for groceries. You get cash back on items you buy on a weekly basis like milk, cheese, eggs, soda, fresh produce like tomatoes, bread, pasta, and much more.
How does it work?
Let us say you want to buy shredded cheese and you normally go to Target for groceries.
- Install the Ibotta app in your cell phone.
- Open the app, select grocery, and then select Target
- Browse through their offers
- If there is a special, you will see something like, “Unlock $0.50, Shredded Cheese – Any Brand“
- Click Unlock
- Visit Target and purchase the shredded cheese.
- In the Ibotta app, in the pull down menu, select verify purchase – select Target.
- Scan the Product Bar Code for Shredded Cheese that your purchased.
- Then the app will prompt you to take a picture of the receipt.
That’s it, Ibotta will verify the purchase and give you cash back of $0.50. No more coupons to clip. Everything is done from your Smartphone.
How to collect cash back from Ibotta?
You can either receive cash via PayPal or request for gift card from merchants like Amazon. I just request for cash back to me via PayPal. You need to accumulate $20 before you can request for a cash back via PayPal.
How much time does it take?
Once you get the hang of it, it is very easy to use. Do you have five minutes available per week? If yes, that is the most it would take for you redeem and verify your purchases to receive cash back.
We started using Ibotta recently. We have already collected our first cash back from Ibotta via PayPal and it works great. Give it a try! $20 back in your pocket every month or every other month sounds like a good idea to me, especially when you are buying groceries just like you normally do.
If you save $10 a month, that is $120 per year is savings – you can pay for your Netflix or Amazon Prime with that savings and still have some money left over.
