SavingStar Cashback

This post contains affiliate links / ads. See disclosure policy.

Sarah and I  don’t have time to clip coupons for groceries, just like most people, so we look for digital alternatives. This is where SavingStar comes into the picture. SavingStar helps us get cash back on groceries and it is extremely easy to use.

There are no coupons to clip or print, everything is done online or using your Smartphone. SavingStar has partnered with most of the grocery chains – over 60,000 stores participate that includes over 100 popular chains.

The beauty is you get your cashback from all the stores consolidated into your SavingStar account. You can withdraw as soon as your cash back balance reaches $5 in your SavingStar account.

That’s a great incentive – you can collect your cash back when your balance reaches as little as $5.

How does SavingStar work?

#1 Sign up for a free account with SavingStar

#2 Link your store loyalty cards to your SavingStar account (for example, stores like CVS and Wegmans have a store loyalty card).

#3 Browse through the offers online (or Smartphone) and click “I want this” on the offer. For example, you may click the $0.50 savings on box of cereal.

#4 You purchase the box of cereal at the store and use your store loyalty card as you would normally at the time of purchase.

#5 Within 2-22 days, the $0.50 would automatically show up in your SavingStar account.

What about stores like Walmart that don’t have a loyalty card?

You would do steps #1 and #3. After you make your purchase, you need to go through two extra steps – using the SavingStar smartphone app, scan the product bar code from the item you purchased and take a picture of the store receipt. After that, you would get the cash back within 2-10 business days.

How do I get the cash back?

There are several options here. As soon as your cash back balance reaches $5, you can withdraw the funds via Paypal, directly transfer funds to your bank, Upromise account, or get a gift code for Starbucks, iTunes, or AMC Theatres. You could also donate your savings to American Forests.

Stretch A Dime Opinion:

It took me less that 10 minutes to get set up with the account and it is super easy to use. Give it a try, I am sure you will like the savings and the ease of use.

Happy Savings!

  1. That sounds like a great system since a lot of buying now is done online. I have never collected coupons either but do use reward systems to great effect!

    1. Hi Mandy,

Yes, cell phone apps to save money are a real blessing. Everything happens on your Smartphone. You select the offer, make the purchase, money shows up in your app, you reach a certain threshold, and you take it to the bank.

  2. Hi Michael,

That sounds like a really great option – I’m afraid I’m still one who has a purse full of shopping coupons. They always seem to send me offers for more than I spend – i.e. spend £60, save £6. But I hardly ever spend as much as £60.

I don’t know CVS and Wegmans so I’m guessing SavingStar isn’t available in the UK? Hope it comes over here soon and will work with my local store. We have a Walmart but getting there would probably use up the cashback in petrol costs!

    1. Hi Joy,

Thank you visiting Stretch A Dime and thank you for your comment.

Sorry, since I live in the US, I am not very familiar with the UK market. If I come across any cell phone grocery coupon apps, I will let you know.

Hope to see more of you here.

  3. SavingStar is not available in Belgium. But I found a french company for cashback for online shopping for several sites…so I am using it!

    Greetings from Brussels!

    1. Hi Claudia,

Nice to hear from you again. Hope all is well with you.

I am glad to see that you are leveraging cash back offers.

      1. Thanks,I am okay, but what is happening here is not okay. I just left the metro station 1 hour before (I am working exactly there).

Exactly, every cash back and every ‘smart’ reduction is better than nothing. Maybe 3-5 euros per month doesn’t sound like much, but it is 50 euros per year without any effort.

        1. Hi Claudia,

What happened was terrible. So glad to hear that you are safe and well!

Yes, you are right about the cash back.
